NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - Larry David doesn't know if he'll bring back "Curb Your Enthusiasm." Ask him later. But the man knows his Alans.
David spoke at a Television Critics Association panel Thursday, where he discussed his new HBO film "Clear History." David opted to make the film instead of a season of "Curb," and he and director Greg Mottola discussed the story about a disgraced executive who finds a new life in Martha's Vineyard.
But critics being critics, and "Curb" being a critical darling, what many wanted to know was whether "Curb" would be back. David rated critics' questions as they asked them, and gave a thumbs down to the first one about the future of "Curb."
"I don't know. I really don't know," he said. "Ask me in six months."
Later he explained: "I'm just an indecisive fella. You should see me at a restaurant."
David's smirking bemusement went over well. But he ended on a high when HitFix's Alan Sepinwall, who had asked a question before, asked another. David chided him for asking two questions, and volunteered that when he first saw Sepinwall from the stage, he thought, "I'll bet this guy's name is Alan."
Indeed. From a distance of 30 feet, he had nailed it. "I swear on my children's lives, I didn't know his name," David said.
He might have a better memory than he gives himself credit for. Sepinwall says he has interviewed David a few times, but always in a group setting.
It seems as if David and Sepinwall had what you might have a clear histo- never mind. Sorry.
