The new mayor of Sauk Rapids has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, the St. Cloud Times reports. Police said Brad Gunderson, 48, who is just a few months into his term as mayor, crashed his vehicle and failed a preliminary breath test at about 3 p.m. Sunday, the newspaper reports.
No injuries were reported. The State Patrol was called to the crash scene to avoid a conflict of interest posed by having Sauk Rapids police investigate the city?s mayor, the Times reported.
Gunderson was taken home and not booked in to jail, Police Chief Perry Beise told the newspaper. A urine analysis is being conducted. Formal charges are pending from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, WCCO reported.
He declined to comment when The Associated Press reached him on Monday night.
